Qi in the Human Body.
Human Qi moving throughout our body is referred to as Normal Qi (Zheng-Qi). It is also sometimes called True Qi (Zhen-Qi). Normal Qi is internal energy before it becomes
associated with specific internal functions. According to Chinese belief Qi fills the body at every level and is said to be coursing through the body along intangible lines of energy known as meridians.
Thoughts, emotions, food, breath and exercise, the weather seasons and even times of the day are believed to influence the way Qi functions and is stored in the human body.
Chinese medical texts have identified over thirty-two categories for types of Qi to be found in the body.
According to traditional Chinese medicine human Qi is part of the "Three treasures", Jing (essence), Qi (energy) and Shen (spirit) that constitute the life force and
vitality of human beings. When these energies are stimulated and blended correctly through life style, meditation and various exercises the result is health, longevity and harmony with nature.
While human Qi energy can be preserved, increased and stored its primary purpose is to maintain proper internal functions, increase health and improve longevity.
Today many martial artists subscribe to the erroneous belief derived from Chinese mythology that somehow the development of human Qi can provide a secret martial
power enabling them to dispatch opponents with impunity. Adding insult to injury some even purport that this magical skill can be projected to do great harm or heal
without physical contact.
Popular books, videos and masters and Internet chat forums often claim to have heard of or witnessed such feats of projected Qi. While it is true that some high level
practitioners can in some as yet unexplained way influence the energy and feeling of sensitive individuals or their own students without contact the proof of this being
the result of suggestion or due to projected Qi is still open for debate.
To date no one has proven or even demonstrated such fantastic claims as the ability to use Qi projection as true defensive abilities against all comers
under scientific test conditions. A science research group headed by researcher James Randi in the USA is offering a $ 1,000,000 reward for
anyone who can demonstrate proof of such psychic abilities.
